Shrimp Creole Recipe

Ingredients

  • 2 medium-sized onions, peeled and chopped
  • 2 medium-sized green bell pepper, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 stalks celery ribs, chopped
  • 2 tbs olive oil
  • 2 tbs butter
  • 1 (28 oz) can tomatoes
  • ½ tsp paprika
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/8 tsp ground red pepper
  • 1 tsp file’ powder
  • 1 ½ lbs raw shrimp, shelled and deveined
  • Boiled rice

Directions

  1. Stir fry onions, green pepper, garlic, and celery in oil and butter, 5-8 minutes, low heat, until onions are golden
  2. Stir in tomatoes, with liquid, breaking up large pieces, add paprika, pepper, and salt, cover and simmer 35-45 minutes, stirring occasionally
  3. If sauce seems thin, boil uncovered 2-3 minutes to reduce
  4. Add file’ powder, shrimp and simmer, uncovered 3-5 minutes until shrimp are just cooked through
  5. Serve over boiled rice
