There are two main ways to light a charcoal grill. Both are safe and almost always work.
The first way to light your grill is an electric charcoal starter
1. Take your electric lighter and put its metal end inside the bed of coals and plug the starter in. After about 2-3 minutes it will glow red and begin to light the coals. In about 11-12 minutes, after the starter is lighting the coals, or when about 3/4 of the coals are burning remove the starter.
IMPORTANT! After the coals are burning do not use any lighter fluid on the briquettes!
2. Next put your grate on the grill and begin cooking.
The second way to light your grill is to use a charcoal chimney.
1. First put your chimney on the grate of your grill and put a couple sheets of crumpled up newspaper in the bottom of the chimney.
2. Next fill your chimney with charcoal all the way to the top.
3. Light the newspaper with a lighter or some matches.
4. The coals are completely done when they glow bright orange. This generally takes about 15-20 minutes.
IMPORTANT! After the coals are burning do not use any lighter fluid on the briquettes!
5. Finally empty the charcoal into your grill and spread them around evenly with a garden hoe.
