One of my favorite things to do is cook with my dutch ovens.
There is nothing like cooking outdoors with the smell of the forest complementing the wonderful aromas escaping from the dutch ovens cooking around the campfire.
However, there are lots of times that I don’t want to deal with charcoal and just get down to the business of dutch oven cooking – and do it indoors.
No, I don’t use charcoal indoors (that would be incredibly dangerous and stupid). Instead, I use my oven as the heat source.
One of my favorite Dutch Ovens my Lodge Logic Pre-Seasoned 5-Quart Dutch Oven with Loop Handles. It doesn’t have any legs on it. It works great in my oven!
It is very easy to control the heat (you just set the desired heat on the oven).
The only issue is where to set the dutch oven after it comes out of the oven. I have a large cutting board that I use (it would work great for dutch ovens with legs as well) and I just use a hot pad to handle the dutch oven while it is hot and when I check the contents, I just set the lid on the cutting board as well.
I serve straight from the dutch oven on my kitchen table and have to keep my young kids from touching it as they are reaching for items on the table.
