What is a cookout without homemade ice cream? I love to gather recipes and experiment with them. My most successful was the mint chocolate chip that we recently posted. I have made a recipe that tastes very similar to a Wendy’s Frosty for years and it has become a staple — almost a tradition — for the Fourth of July.

During the hot summer months, I often cater luncheons and have homemade ice cream as the dessert. The specialty, chocolate ganache cupcakes topped with homemade French vanilla ice cream.

Try this Wendy’s Frosty recipe the next time you have an urge for homemade ice cream:

EVERYDAY INGREDIENTS:
16 ounces Cool Whip
1 (14-ounce) can sweetened condensed milk
1 gallon chocolate milk

SIMPLE INSTRUCTIONS:

STEP ONE: Assemble all ingredients and cooking utensils.
STEP TWO: Pour Cool Whip THEN sweetened condensed milk in a 6 quart ice-cream freezer.
STEP THREE: Fill to “Fill line” with chocolate milk.
STEP FOUR: Stir all ingredients, then turn on the machine and let it do the work for you.

This is also great when you let kids add their own toppings such as M&M’s, nuts, Reeces Pieces, chocolate chips, crushed Butterfingers, etc. Let your imagination run free.
