Hawaiian Sweet and Sour Chicken Recipe
Ingredients:
- 4-6 lbs chicken cut up
- ½ cup soy sauce
- ¼ cup olive oil
- 1 cup vinegar
- 1 cup pineapple juice
- ¾ tsp MSG
- 1 cup water
- ¾ cup sugar
- 1 can pineapple chunks
- 1 green pepper, sliced
- 2-4 tbs cornstarch
- mandarin oranges
- maraschino cherries
Directions:
- Place 4-6 pounds of cut up chicken in large ziplock bag and pour ½ cup soy sauce over chicken; chill at least 1 hour, sloshing occasionally
- Brown chicken in Dutch oven using ¼ cup of hot oil in bottom
- Combine vinegar, pineapple, MSG, water and sugar; put lid in place and bake about 45 minutes
- Add a can of pineapple chunks and sliced green pepper; cook 6-10 minutes longer
- Take chicken out and arrange. Save the liquid, add 2-4 tbs cornstarch and cook until thickened
- Place mandarin oranges and maraschino cherries on chicken, pour sauce over chicken parsley and green onions
