Hawaiian Sweet and Sour Chicken Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 4-6 lbs chicken cut up
  • ½ cup soy sauce
  • ¼ cup olive oil
  • 1 cup vinegar
  • 1 cup pineapple juice
  • ¾ tsp MSG
  • 1 cup water
  • ¾ cup sugar
  • 1 can pineapple chunks
  • 1 green pepper, sliced
  • 2-4 tbs cornstarch
  • mandarin oranges
  • maraschino cherries

Directions:

  1. Place 4-6 pounds of cut up chicken in large ziplock bag and pour ½ cup soy sauce over chicken; chill at least 1 hour, sloshing occasionally
  2. Brown chicken in Dutch oven using ¼ cup of hot oil in bottom
  3. Combine vinegar, pineapple, MSG, water and sugar; put lid in place and bake about 45 minutes
  4. Add a can of pineapple chunks and sliced green pepper; cook 6-10 minutes longer
  5. Take chicken out and arrange. Save the liquid, add 2-4 tbs cornstarch and cook until thickened
  6. Place mandarin oranges and maraschino cherries on chicken, pour sauce over chicken parsley and green onions
